EXCERPT // IMAGERY
All great leaders seek to unite people for the greater good of a common goal. A lot of people in the Black Community feel that we need another strong Black Leader. However, my opinion is the exact opposite. We need to become open to being led. To have unity, one must first be open to the concept. Communication influences our perceptions at every encounter. Sadly, most of the non-verbal communication that I receive from today’s youth is that they are not open to verbal conversations.
Every day, I walk past a young man who I want to encourage and educate. Most of all, I want to have a conversation. That young man and my younger self are one and the same. When I was growing up, being friendly was taboo; you would often be teased for being “friendly” by your own friends. I was not only a victim, yet a participant in this behavior.
